More about Centifolia Roses
Centifolia Roses, also known as the ‘Cabbage’ or ‘Provence’ rose, are said to have first appeared in the late 16th century as a cross between the Autumn Damask and an Alba rose. They tend to have large globular blooms of white or pink and be rather lax in habit. This group also includes some very good dwarf hybrids with smaller leaves and flowers. All are fragrant and extremely hardy.
Pompon de Bourgogne, a.k.a. Parvifolia or Burgundy Rose, is a miniature Centifolia, with compact growth, tiny leave and small pompom flowers of claret. Fragrant, with a similar height and habit to Rosa De Meaux, it’s an excellent rose for container growing.
Pruning guide: Requires little pruning except for the removal of very old wood once established (after flowering) and perhaps the shortening of any growths by one third in February.
