More about Bourbon roses:
A chance cross between Old Blush China and the Autumn Damask led to the first of the Bourbon Roses. This occurred in 1817 on the Ile de Bourbon an island in the Indian ocean. Later it was hybridised further with Gallica and Damask roses. Most varieties are blessed with a good fragrance, recurrent flowering and refined foliage.
Rivers George IV is a rare and unique rose, with dark red double blooms. Its twiggy, lax growth makes it a good short pillar rose. It has a good heady fragrance, and is summer flowering.
Pruning Guide: Requires little pruning except for the removal of very old wood once established (after flowering) and perhaps the shortening of any growths by one third in February.
